Geared & Plain Beam Trolleys

Beam trolleys, often referred to as crawl-type trolleys, are essential components in material handling and hoisting systems. These robust mechanisms enable the smooth, controlled movement of suspended loads along a beam, ensuring efficiency, precision, and safety in lifting operations. Though simple in design, they play a crucial role in the safe transportation and positioning of heavy materials across workshops, factories, and construction sites.

What Are Beam Trolleys?

Beam trolleys are engineered carriers designed to travel along the flange of an I-beam or overhead track, serving as the rolling connection point between a hoist and the support structure. They provide horizontal mobility for loads, allowing lifting equipment such as chain blocks or electric hoists to move freely along the beam.

There are two primary types of trolleys:

Plain (Push) Trolley: Moved manually by pushing or pulling the suspended load.

Geared Trolley: Operated via a hand chain, offering greater precision and control over movement, especially when positioning heavy or delicate loads.

Key Features and Benefits

Safety:
Beam trolleys are built with heavy-duty steel frames and precision-machined wheels to ensure smooth and secure operation under load. Their robust design reduces the risk of derailment or uneven travel.

Versatility:
Available in various capacities and adjustable widths, these trolleys can fit a wide range of beam sizes and hoist configurations.

Smooth Operation:
Equipped with sealed ball bearings, geared and plain trolleys ensure effortless movement even under maximum load.

Durability:
Constructed from high-tensile steel and coated for corrosion resistance, they withstand harsh working conditions in industrial and construction environments.

Control and Precision:
The geared version allows operators to position heavy loads accurately using a hand chain, enhancing safety and ease of use.

Applications

Beam trolleys are widely used in:

Construction: Moving and positioning building materials, tools, and prefabricated components.

Manufacturing: Supporting chain or electric hoists for assembly and production line lifting.

Warehousing: Handling heavy goods along overhead tracks.

Shipyards and Marine Operations: Assisting in lifting and maintenance of heavy ship components.

Maintenance and Repair: Allowing easy relocation of hoists and tools in confined spaces.

Safety Considerations

Proper installation and inspection are critical to safe operation. Always ensure that beam width adjustment is correct, load limits are observed, and all components are inspected for wear or damage before use. Regular maintenance and lubrication of moving parts will extend service life and ensure consistent performance.
